Case No. 4 - Ganga Prasad Poudel
Mr. Ganga Prasad Poudel, 35 years old male patient presented to us with right elbow Monteggia fracture-dislocation with infective nonunion. He also had L2-L3 spinal fracture dislocation with paraparesis. He gives the history of land mine injury 13 months back. He was initially treated at Birendra Army Hospital, Chhauni, Kathmandu. He has been reoperated in our centre with radial head resection for radial head chronic dislocation and external fixator has been applied for proximal ulna infective nonunion after the removal of plate. Resected radial head has been used for bone graft at the site of nonunion. Daily wound care, antibiotics, elbow range of motion improving exercises and mobilization with crutches with the support of lumbar corset were done during his hospital stay. He is discharged with oral antibiotics for 7 days, alternate days dressing and advice for rehabilitation. There is a plan for using calipers to make him walk in the near future as forearm fracture heals. At present, he is able to write with his right hand and do considerable activities for teaching or office works. Patient’s consent has been taken for the presentation of himself in the web.
Total expenditure from the charity fund for this treatment is NRs 22,157.00 (Twenty two thousand one hundred fifty seven rupees only).
