Case No. 2 - Chakra Bahadur Thapa

Mr. Chakra Bahadur Thapa, 49 years old male patient with a left femur proximal third fracture nonunion following fall from a tree 9 months back, was initially treated at other center with skeletal traction for 1 month and then on cast for another 1 month. No fracture union was noted. Since then he tried different local treatments and herbs. He was extremely poor and further treatment was impossible for him. His case was published in The Kantipur, a National daily newspaper, for help. We volunteered to help him for the treatment. Villagers raised about NRs 4000 for food and  transportation to our center.

He was brought to our centre on the 9th September, 2003. He was found to have fracture nonunion with deformity and shortening along with stiff knee and ankle joints.

His whole treatment was funded by our department’s charity fund. His femur proximal shaft fracture was treated with Open Reduction & Intramedullary Interlocking with SIGN Nail and Bone Grafting in 11 September, 2003 (Thanks to the  SIGN organization and Dr. Zirkle for providing free nail). After successful treatment he was discharged in one week time.

Total expenditure from the charity fund for this treatment is NRs 15,533.00 (Fifteen thousand five hundred and thirty three rupees only).
